An open plan and bright views on your private lake access.
The house was designed with an open plan on the mainfloor. In one sense, the house is all about the lake. The lake-facing wall of the house is lined with windows, providing lake views from every vantage point on the mainfloor. And yet, there is a sense of purpose and intention to each space as well, so while the floor is open, the kitchen itself looks out onto the front yard as much as it offers views out the back. The sitting area by the fireplace is cozy and focused. The TV area is tucked around the corner - open to all, but also separate from the main activity of the floor so that you never feel that the TV dominates the room or takes center stage.
The mainfloor features the open kitchen, which looks on to the front yard and out across the living room, a living room with gas fireplace, a sitting area focused on a wide screen television, small dining area, a 1/2 bathroom, a laundry room with full washer/dryer & ironing board, and a modest bedroom that doubles as a study. Modest is a good word for the bedroom, though the pictures don't do it justice. By bringing in the daybed and a small corner desk, this bedroom feels very livable now - especially for children (and the daybed has a trundle so it can easily sleep two kids). The room stays cool on the mainfloor, so there's a lot to like about this smaller sleeping space, and it's located right next to the bathroom which makes it more of a private bathroom for this bedroom.
What we love about this house is how conducive it is to family-time -- games & good food -- as well as the individual, quiet moments you crave while on retreat: a quiet cup of tea on the porch overlooking the lake, an overstuffed armchair by the fireplace while everyone else is outside, room for those who both want to watch the game and those who'd rather read by the fire without getting in each other's way. I think of it as a house that brings everyone together while giving them space to pursue what makes them happiest on vacation. And more than anything, I hope you'll share with us your experiences here, how you used the house, and what features helped define your favorite moments of your lakefront retreat.
